- What best describes your role in journalism?
- A former tree-hugging, hard news newspaper and magazine reporter and media attorney, I am now Director of the School of Journalism at Michigan State University, one of the oldest and most respected J-Schools in the nation. My job is to create possibilities for students, professionals and teachers to use multimedia and multiplatforms to do journalism. It's not just print and broadcast anymore!

- Biography
- Jane Briggs-Bunting is Director of the Michigan State University School of Journalism. A professor of journalism, she joined the MSU faculty in August 2003 after 24 years in journalism education at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
She was named Journalist of the Year in 1991 by the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. In April 2003, she was inducted into the prestigious Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame in part because of her advocacy for the legal rights of the college press. In November 2006, she received a Friend of Scholastic Journalism Award for her support of high school journalists by the Journalism Education Association.
She joined the Oakland University faculty in 1978 after nearly 10 years as a staff writer for the Detroit Free Press and continued to work professionally as a freelancer for the Free Press and as a correspondent for People and LIFE magazines. She specializes in hard news coverage for newspapers, magazines and the web, computer assisted reporting and press law.
She is also a media attorney, the author of three journalism textbooks and three children’s books.
